Sawmill Maintenance Supervisor

We are currently looking for a full time Sawmill Maintenance Supervisor to join our Freeman Lumber Maintenance Team.  This role reports directly to the Sawmill Superintendent and will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance program with a team of Industrial Mechanics/ Millwrights, Welders and support staff.  This role will both plan and schedule maintenance for the sawmill, keeping both short and long term maintenance goals in mind.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring application of Safety standards for production and company operations
  • Providing strong leadership skills with an ability to collaborate and build good working relationships across multiple departments
  • Planning and implementing daily and weekly preventative maintenance work lists and duties
  • Coordinating the work of crews to ensure both maintenance, production and quality targets are met
  • Developing, implementing and maintaining detailed maintenance planning schedules that drive continuous improvement
  • Providing hands-on technical expertise on the mill floor to increase and maintain plant operations/equipment
  • Ensuring an effective maintenance system that meets ISO 9001 standards

Skill and Abilities:

  • Promote and demonstrate constant safety behavior
  • Ensure compliance of safe work practices and health and safety policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Knowledge in key maintenance programs, such as reliability metrics, preventative maintenance systems, parts inventory management, project management, machining and mechanical practices
  • Ability to multi-task while working under pressure
  • Team player
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office Programs
  • Work with minimal supervision
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Analytical and problem solving skills
  • Good organization and decision-making skills


  • A completed program, University or College level, in mechanical engineering and/or Millwright ticket/red seal certification
  • Demonstrated leadership with a drive for continuous improvement
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in a supervisory or maintenance role, sawmill experience an asset

Compensation:  Commensurate based on experience
